In Brief: Rekka is an energetic, inquisitive young woman whose average life is shattered when she discovers she is the "host body" for the spirit of a deceased warrior whose battle is far from over. While unable to comprehend nor accept this at first, she is gradually coming to terms with her situation and what it entails.
The only child of two active police officers, Rekka aspires to work in law enforcement when she grows up. In the meantime she attends high school with her best friend of thirteen years, Mai. The two girls are very close - Mai even buys newspapers for Rekka so she can try her hand at solving current crimes. Aside from reading about crime, Rekka's other main hobby is playing the violin. She is also quite good at athletics.
Rekka has a good relationship with the non-threatening messenger
deity, Mamoru, but her relationship with Mamoru's wife, Toshi is rather strained and the pair argue
quite a bit.

In Brief: Mai is Rekka's most trusted friend, a girl she has known for thirteen of her seventeen years. While Rekka is lively and outrageous, Mai is more the quiet and reserved type who is formal when speaking and gracious in all circumstances. Though she is Rekka's best friend, Mai is unaware of her status as the "host body" of a divine warrior.
Mai shares an apartment with her mother Akiko, a freelance reporter. The status of her father is unknown. In spite of her rather unusual family situation Mai is quite well adjusted and when she's not spending time with Rekka she's usually at home practicing calligraphy, her most treasured hobby. Mai also supplies Rekka with newspapers on a daily basis so her companion can try her hand at solving recent Tokyo-based crimes.
Kind and self-sacrifcing. Mai is not blind and can tell that something isn't quite right with her best friend. Whether or not she can come to understand the magnitude of Rekka's situation however, has yet to be discovered.

In Brief: A "perfect warrior" created by The Council of Gods to combat Yuki-Onna over five hundred years ago, Toshi died fulfilling her mission only to be reincarnated in the soul of ordinary school girl, Fujiwara Rekka to once again do battle with her nemesis. Blessed with incredible powers and a strong sense of nobility, Toshi is also cursed with a terrible temper and unyielding bitterness toward everyone around her (including, but not limited to her "host body" and Mamoru, the Council's messenger).
Little has been uncovered so far about Toshi's past. We do know that she married the deity Mamoru when she was very young and that she died at the tender age of nineteen. Her dark past clouds her present, and while at times she can be a gentle and caring woman, her mood can turn 180° in an instant, making her wildly unpredictable. She holds a strong dislike for the Council of Gods, though seems to have had a good deal of contact with Council Member #4 in the past.
When she's not busy fighting and arguing, Toshi enjoys finding out more about the present time and enjoys looking through Rekka's possessions and observing her favourite television programs. There is undoubtedly more to Toshi behind her savage exterior, but whether or not anyone can breach the walls she puts up has yet to be seen. For now she is engrossed in her mission and will do whatever it takes to fulfill it once again.

In Brief: A divine messenger employed by The Council of Gods, Mamoru was set the task of finding Toshi in her newly reincarnated form and training her (and her "host body") for battle against Yuki-Onna. Polite and submissive almost to a fault, Mamoru is a wise guardian to Rekka but serves as nothing more than easy target practice to the woman he has sacrificed so much to be reunited with: his wife, Toshi.
While Mamoru's history and his circumstances for marrying Toshi are unclear at this stage, what we do know is that they married young and spent some time away from each other before Toshi eventually died by Yuki-Onna's hand. Mamoru would do anything for Toshi but tries not to alienate "Miss Rekka", whom he also worries about. Rekka genuinely likes Mamoru but Toshi treats him poorly in exchange for all his affection. Mamoru also appears to have support in Council Members #3 and #4 but has earned disdain from Council Members #1 & #7 for the way he handles his mission.
Mamoru spends his time going between Earth and the Council Headquarters, watching and training the two women in his life, relaxing whenever possible. He has been mistaken for a pervert several times in the story though he hasn't got a perverted bone in his body.

In Brief: The sworn enemy of Toshi and nemesis to the Council is Yuki-Onna, a being with the ability to manipulate snow and the wintry weather to her advantage. Little is known of Yuki-Onna's motivations or history at this stage, though she appears to garner a considerable deal of enjoyment from torturing Toshi in whatever way possible.
She is responsible for a series of recent murders in modern Tokyo as well as a spate of killings 500 years ago. It is Toshi's main purpose to hunt Yuki-onna and end her killings. So far however, Yuki-Onna has proved a rather formidable adversary.

In Brief: Easily distinguishable by the three raised scars on his cheek, Council Member #1 is a character whose true intentions are hard to pin down. So far he has proven himself to be incredibly interested in the Yuki-Onna situation, but disapproving of the manner in which Mamoru handles it . He is also having something of an illicit affair with Council Member #7. Everything else is simply a mystery...

In Brief: Council Member #2 is the designer and operator of the Yuki-Onna tracking system maintained by the Council of Gods. He has superior knowledge of technology and in spite of his youthful appearance, a good deal of general knowledge as well. He has a very lame sense of humour and his jokes just aren't funny.

In Brief: The acting head of the Council of Gods, Council Member #3 is a professional gentleman with a calm, collected demeanor. As Council Member #2 jokes at one stage - he's a businessman, approaching everything with an air of strategy and cynicism.
Council Member #3 is a very serious character, with little time for fools - though Council Member #4's apparent all-consuming love for him seems to be tolerated to a degree. #3 has faith in Mamoru, a feeling many of his fellow gods do not share.
How #3 managed to get dragged into #4's various purikura still remains a mystery...

In Brief: A character whose gender is all but indecipherable, Council Member #4 not only has a burning love for Council Member #3, he also has a strong interest in both Maidens of the Gods (Toshi and Rekka). His memorable moments thus far include glomping #3 from behind, watching Rekka get undressed and suggesting that he and Rekka do "this and that" in her fantasies.
While eccentric and flamboyant in everything he does, #4 does take some things seriously and his concern for the well-being of both Toshi and Rekka appears to be genuine. He apparently knows something about Toshi's past that she is unwilling to reveal to others.
#4 can be distinguished by the two black dots under each of his eyes.
