» series overview

Dragonaut -The Resonance-Dragonaut -The Resonance- is a twenty-six episode anime series originally produced by Gonzo and NAS for the Fall 2007 television season. In addition to the television series, a manga adaptation began its run in Shueisha's Jump Square November 2007 issue. The manga concluded at six chapters and was published in a bound volume during May of 2008. While the manga has not been licensed for US distribution, FUNimation announced its acquistion of the anime licence in February of 2009. Dragonaut was subsequently released to the American market as two half-series DVD in November and December of 2009, respectively. A complete box set containing the entire twenty-six episode saga has subsequently been released in the US and Canada. The series is complete in both anime and manga forms with no plans for any future extension of the franchise.

Dragonaut tells the story of Kamishina Jin, an orphaned survivor of a shuttle accident. Two years after the incident that killed his family, he begins to discover the truth behind the tragedy thanks to a mysterious girl named Toa. The reality, as Jin learns, is complicated. Apparently dragon invaders from space are out to screw with Earth and an organisation known as the ISDA is devoted to stopping them. Now, whether he likes it or not, Jin is part of an ongoing battle between humans and space dragons. Something which becomes rather complicated once he realises that the beautiful Toa is actually one of these alien enemies...

I suppose one could liken it to Romeo and Juliet only with slightly more hideous CGI dragons.

Best anime ever? Oh, totally.
